Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Malaysia​

YB Tuan Liew Chin Tong is Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, currently serving as Member of Parliament for Iskandar Puteri (since November 2022) and State Assemblyperson for Perling, Johor. Formerly a Senator (2018–2021), he was Deputy Defence Minister (2018–2020) and supported Minister Mohammad Sabu in presenting Malaysia’s first Defence White Paper, passed in Parliament in December 2019.

Alongside Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, he now focuses on implementing the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030), with a particular emphasis on semiconductor and steel sectors. Active in the Democratic Action Party (DAP) since 1999, YB Liew is Deputy Secretary-General and sits on the DAP Central Executive Committee. He previously represented Bukit Bendera (2008–2013) and Kluang (2013–2018) in Parliament.

Holding degrees in Political Science and Asian Studies from the Australian National University, and an International Masters in Regional Integration from the University of Malaya, YB Liew also chairs the Research for Social Advancement (REFSA) think tank. He recently published “Second Takeoff: Strategies for Malaysia’s Economic Resurgence”.​
